60 Solar Streetlights Being Installed in Providenciales Under the RESEMBID Project
Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands – Friday, 22 November 2024: The Energy and Utilities Department (EUD), under the Ministry of Public Safety and Utilities (MPSU), is pleased to announce the commencement of the installation of 60 solar streetlights in Providenciales. Funded by the European Union (EU) through the RESEMBID programme and implemented by Expertise France, this project is designed to enhance public safety, support sustainability, and improve the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
This initiative marks a significant step forward in the Turks and Caicos Islands’ ongoing commitment to sustainable development and renewable energy. By harnessing solar power, the streetlights will help reduce the country’s carbon footprint while providing a reliable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly lighting solution. In addition to the 60 lights being installed in Providenciales, 50 solar streetlights will be installed across the remaining islands in the Turks and Caicos Chain, ensuring that communities throughout the islands benefit from improved lighting and safety.

The solar streetlights are equipped with advanced technology to ensure reliable night-time operation with minimal maintenance. This infrastructure provides a renewable energy solution and will also help reduce energy costs, contributing to a more resilient and sustainable energy future for the community.
Community feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with residents noting the enhanced safety and aesthetic benefits the new lights will bring to their neighbourhoods.
