The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) brought together energy sector stakeholders from across the Region. The aim is to develop a comprehensive assistance programme for CDB and other partners to support the acceleration of the energy transition in Borrowing Member Countries (BMC).
The two-day (February 28-March 1,2023) is the first in a series of CDB Accelerated Sustainable Energy and Resilience Transition (ASERT-2030) Workshops.
ASERT-2030 aims to encourage and support CDB Borrowing Member Countries (BMCs) in their efforts to rapidly increase the scale and pace of their energy sector transition to greater uptake of renewable energy. This first Dialogue, referred to as the Regional Regulatory ASERT Dialogue(RR-Dialogue) focused on strengthening regulatory frameworks in BMCs.
The main targeted outcomes of the Dialogue are:
- Consensus on funding support strategies including the establishment of an initial prioritized list of support areas for each BMC (government/regulator).
- Consensus on a possible framework for planning, coordination and tracking the progress of the country’s regulatory readiness to support investments in renewable energy; and
- Shared lessons on challenges and solutions for regulatory reform in different countries.
The TCI representatives, Engr. Delano R. Arthur, EUD Commissioner and Eric F. Salamanca, Ph.D., Energy Analyst, have participated in the workshop and established contacts with key stakeholders in the industry like the Regulators in the region, CEO of regulatory bodies, the OOCUR, the World Bank, the IDB, the Caribbean Development Bank, the USAID, the EU, the Canada government, the CCREEE; among others. Commissioner Arthur indicated that “the meeting was useful and timely, as the TCI is finalizing the Renewable Energy Bill, which will govern the transition to clean energy.”
